First, more energy conservation. Compared with CCFL backlight, LED backlight beads can significantly save energy. Generally, civil products of the same specification can save more than 40% energy. According to our evaluation data, some high-quality LED backlight displays can save more than 60% energy compared with mainstream CCFL products, which is absolutely very energy-saving. Moreover, with the further maturity of LED backlight technology, LED backlight displays are likely to be more energy-saving in the future. (Energy saving is certain, but it is not as much as 60% or 40% as you think. For example, a mainstream CCFL tn display has a maximum power consumption of 40W, and an LED backlight has a maximum power consumption of 20W. The difference is about 10W when using 50 brightness.)

Second, environmental protection. Mercury in CCFL backlight is a substance that is quite harmful to the environment, but LED backlight does not contain this harmful substance. Third, the color gamut is wider. The LED backlight module is more pure than the white light generated by the traditional CCFL, so the display with LED backlight is easier to improve the color gamut. The final color is "filtered" on the panel. The TN screen with a wide color gamut has oversaturation, which is pleasing to the eye, but the authenticity is not enough. Fourth, the service life is longer. Theoretically, compared with CCFL backlight, LED backlight has a longer life and a longer brightness decay period. And with the further maturity of technology, the life of LED backlight still has room to extend. (The life of LED backlight often does not match the life of the drive power supply, especially at a low price. The final life does not depend on the backlight system.)

Fifth, lighter and thinner. Compared with the traditional CCFL backlight, the LED backlight system is thinner, and the display with LED backlight may also be thinner. In particular, the thin one is very consistent with the current fashion needs of consumers. At present, one of the main features of many LED backlight displays on the market is "thin".


First, the luminous efficiency of LED backlight system is far less than that of CCFL backlight. To put it simply, the brightness of the display with LED backlight will be lower. For example, the brightness of the general CCFL backlight display will be 300 cd/m2, and most of the lower ones will be above 250 cd/m2; However, the brightness of LED backlight displays is mostly below 250cd/m2, and even below 200cd/m2. As we all know, displays with low brightness will have poor image performance and applicability. It is inevitable that they will be unable to meet the demand for high brightness in movies, videos, games, etc. (Therefore, it is not really energy saving. It is often used to fool people with the number of watts at the maximum brightness. The brightness of 80 is equivalent to the brightness of CCFL 50, and the energy saving is usually less than 10W).

Second, uniformity. The LED backlight is a point light source. Compared with the CCFL of the traditional line light source, the uniformity becomes more difficult to control. In order to control the light uniformity, the brightness characteristics of each LED must be consistent in selection. In addition, if the life of an LED ends first, it will greatly affect the light uniformity. As far as the current market situation is concerned, although all major display manufacturers are promoting that LED backlight displays have better uniformity, the performance of most products is actually very general.

Third, the color is difficult to control. As we all know, measuring the color of a display is not whether it is rich or not, nor whether it is bright or not, but whether it is accurate. As a technically mature backlight, CCFL has been excellent in color control after years of improvement and optimization. As far as the current technology is concerned, the contradiction between color gamut and light efficiency of LED backlight is still unresolved, and color control is very difficult. This is mainly because it has a great impact on professional level displays with strict color requirements. Because the color control of consumer level displays is not so strict, the slight color deviation caused by LED backlight beads is relatively easy to accept.
